The Centre as a learning environment
Education is a vital part of the work that the centre does. Education is often seen in its more formal context of achieving qualifications and passing exams.
However the centre is committed to creating a learning environment for life. Being a parent is a continuous learning journey and as an adult we all enjoy learning new skills and building on what we know already. At the centre we provide a wealth of opportunities for everyone to learn either on their own or with their children.
Family Learning
Linaker Primary School and Children’s Centre is committed to providing opportunities for families to learn together.
As parents we all want the best for our children and research has shown that parents are the first and foremost educators of their children.
Here at the Children’s Centre we have developed a number of activities that support parents to help their children learn, from art and craft activities to mathematics, from language and communication to yoga. All the activities are designed to be enjoyable and to increase your knowledge as a parent to support your child’s learning.
Family learning activities are continually being developed and evaluated to ensure we develop learning opportunities for families with children from birth to 11 years.

If you would like to increase your skills as a parent or would simply like to spend some quality time with your child learning something new the contact the centre for our current activity list.
NB Activities and services change constantly throughout the year so keep checking the web site for updates.
Parenting
Being a parent can be the most rewarding experience of your life. However children do not come with an instruction manual and we sometimes need some help and guidance in the different areas of family life.
The centre provides a range of courses that promote the skills and knowledge that parents need to support them in their everyday life and increase their confidence in supporting children’s development

The centre has a number of parenting course available that addresses all areas of family life. The courses are designed to increase your ability and expertise in managing the various ages and stages of your child’s life.
Courses include advice and guidance on general parenting skills, healthy eating, behaviour and home safety.
Adult Education
The centre can help you access a number of Adult Education Courses through its partner agencies which will extend your own knowledge particularly if you would like to go back into work or change your career path.
We also work with other agencies to provide ‘back to work’ training i.e. CV writing, interview skills and confidence building.
Voluntary work
The centre also offers a range of volunteering opportunities through Sefton Councils Social Champion Scheme. Volunteers undergo checks and training to support them in a variety of volunteering opportunities throughout Sefton.
The Children’s Centre always needed voluntary support in a number of areas from supporting groups, supporting other parents to helping in the nursery. If you would like more information call the centre.
Volunteering is an ideal way of learning new skills and getting back into a working environment.
