Governor Profiles

Christopher Gerring – Parent Governor (Appointed February 2005)

Current Term of office – April 2014 - 2018

Chair of Governing Board

Linked to English and Literacy and Year 2.

Background: I have been involved with Linaker since the opening of the Children’s Centre in 2006. I was part of the SureStart Southport local programme that became the Children’s Centre at Linaker at the time. I worked in the Children’s Centre as a Speech and Language Therapist, running parent courses and family groups to help children and their parents learn about the best ways to encourage language through everyday activities. I left the Children’s Centre in 2010, but kept close links with the centre and the school, when my own children started attending.

Business and Financial links: I now run my own Speech and Language Company and I am able to run training sessions within the school and the children’s centre for staff members and can give advice on Speech and Language matters to school staff.

Governing Body: I became a parent governor on the governing board in April 2014 because I wanted to enable a parental view to be displayed and heard on the board. I enjoy the role that I have, chairing the Children’s Centre Advisory Group and being on the Governing board. I feel that parents should have a direct role and input into the development and progression of their school, constructively challenging decisions to see how they will affect the children of the school.

I have no governing links with other schools

Rob Taylor – Co-opted Governor (Appointed October 2014)

Current Term of Office October 2014 - 2018

Member of Premises Committee and Children’s Centre Advisory Board

Linked to Nursery, Year 1.

Background: I work in Tree House Nursery based in the Baby Room. I have worked here for 10 years, but I first came to Linaker for a couple of weeks about 17 years ago to do work placement in the school nursery whilst studying for my childcare qualification.

Before coming to work at Linaker in 2006 I worked for Parenting 2000 for 7 years, my role was two parts, the first office based dealing with centre users, helping to produce leaflets and posters, developing and maintaining databases and other IT jobs, providing statistical information and being responsible for health and safety. The second was childcare, helping to run groups, provide crèches and being part of the play scheme committee made up of parent volunteers and staff to plan and run holiday play schemes.

Business and Financial links: I have no business or financial links.

I have no governing links to other schools.

Governing Body: I became a Staff governor on the governing board in September 2013. Being a Governor can be quite challenging you have to be willing to give up some of your time, especially when you have a fulltime job, but it can be very rewarding when visiting the school and seeing the work the staff do and how the children are engaged in learning, also hearing how well the school works because of the decisions we have made make it worthwhile.

Laura Manwaring Parent Governor (Appointed September 2015)

Current Term of Office September 2015 - 2019

Vice Chair of Governors, Member of Finance Committee , Chair of Personnel Committee, School Effectiveness.

Linked to Year 2

Background: I moved to Southport with my parents when I was 5 where I attended schools and 6th form college locally. I worked for a couple of companies locally before deciding on a career as an accountant. My employment was with a couple of accountancy practices whilst working towards my accountancy qualifications and qualified in 2003.

I have worked for a water treatment company since 2003 and was appointed as finance director in 2009.

I have been linked with Linaker children's centre since 2006 when my youngest son had a place at nursery full time. I now have 2 children in the school, my eldest in year 5 and my youngest in year 1. I am looking forward to being part of the governing team and helping to continue the success of the school and children's centre for all present and future attendees.

Business and Financial links: I have no business or financial links.

I have no governing links to other schools.

Andy Lovegrove – Parent Governor (Appointed September 2013)

Current Term of Office Sept 2017 – 2021 - parent governor

Member of Premises

Background: I am a father to 10 children, 8 of which have been, are or will be schooled at Linaker. I first got involved with Linaker in 2004 when our eldest son started nursery, he has now left with his brother and gone to secondary school but I still have 4 children attending Linaker and 2 more to start in future years.

I am a qualified FA football coach and in past years have helped with the school football teams. I have had several occupations all ending with me being in senior management levels, from security and health and safety to computing. At present I am a carer to one of my children.

I have been a school governor for 4 years, and now entering into my second four year term. I enjoy my time helping steer our school in the right direction. Hopefully as a governing board we are making the right decisions for the school and I feel proud and honoured to be a part of that.

Business and Financial links: I have no business or financial links.

I have no governing links to other schools

Geoff Caton – Local Authority Governor (Appointed October 2016)

Current Term of Office – Oct 2016 - 2020

Member of Finance and School Effectiveness committees

Linked to Year 6 and SEN.

Background: My involvement with Linaker stretches back over 30 years to the time when my 3 children attended the school. I have been involved in the education system throughout my professional working life. Initially, as a teacher of economics, before I progressed to become headteacher of two secondary schools. For the last 15 years I have been involved in the design and development of leadership training programmes for a wide range of educational professionals, before I retired in 2016.

Governing Body: I became a local authority governor on the governing body in September 2016 because I wanted to continue my involvement with the education system. I hope that my previous experience of working in the education sector will allow me to provide effective support and challenge to the headteacher and her team. I have a particular interest in the standards achieved by pupils at the school and how staff are responding to the challenge of implementing the many changes to the primary curriculum and how pupils are assessed. I also have a background in educational financial management and I am looking forward to engaging in this area.

Business and Financial links: I have no business or financial links.

I have no governing links with other schools

The governing body meets at least once a term to consider the headteacher’s report, finance and all matters relating to the running of the school.
