Glenn Miller
Glenn Miller
When we think of the music that would have been popular in the 1940s, one of my favourite American big band leaders is Glenn Miller. He played the trombone, wrote arrangements for songs and conducted his own orchestra. They played songs that were upbeat and people enjoyed dancing to.
In 1942, he volunteered for the war effort in 1942 and became Major Glenn Miller with his own 50 piece Army Air Force Band. They came to England in the summer of 1944 and played over 800 concerts. The links below tell you more about his life and songs - maybe you can dance around your house to some of his famous tunes.
