History - We are moving on to learn about crime and punishment in Anglo-Saxon times. Click here and here to learn about life in Anglo-Saxon times and how crimes were punished.
From the age of 12, people had to take the 'oath of loyalty'. Saxons believed that anyone committing a crime was going against society. If someone broke the oath, their entire family could be punished.
An oath is a special promise that you make about your actions (things you do) and your behaviour. Your task is to write an oath.
Remember to use...
- Capital letters and full stops
- Fronted adverbials
- Adjectives or expanded noun phrases
- Commas in lists
- The conjunction 'because'
Your oath could start with, I promise that I will...

- Think carefully about what Roman Emperors may have enjoyed watching.
- Tell me what the punishment is.
- Tell me what you'd have to do to be punished this way.
- Think about what resources (things they could use to make any weapons) that they would have in Roman times.
