The science topic has been classification. The children have created keys to sort and compare living organisms with a focus on the endangered species of the Sefton coast. They carried out an in-depth study on micro-organisms, wrote reports and created knowledge boards. The children also created their own microbes using the features of bacteria, viruses and fungi. Using their knowledge, the children designed posters for school to remind younger pupils how to wash their hands and limit the spread of germs.
Work on Animalium also enabled the children to create their fantasy creature strictly maintaining the common features of amphibians, reptiles and fish plus write a scientific text detailing their creation.
