Spring 2
Spring Term 2
Welcome back after the half term break. We hope that you and your families managed to have some quality time together. We are looking forward to seeing all the children again for the second half of our Spring term. We have lots of exciting lessons planned!
In Science, we will be learning about the different food groups and what a healthy meal consists of. We will be learning about different diets of animals, carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We will also be learning about why we need a balanced diet of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, dairy products, meats, vegetables and fruits and understanding why they are important to keep our bodies healthy.
In Topic our focus is History. Our topic this half term is Flight. The children will be looking at journeys made through air. They will learn about flights that happened in the past and important historical events that have taken place. They will be finding out about the Montgolfier brothers, Neil Armstrong and the Wright brothers. They will be using timelines to order events and looking at a significant historical event in our locality which was an early transatlantic flight that took off on Ainsdale beach.
In RE, our key question this half term is What does it mean to belong to a faith community? The children will be finding similarities and differences between Judaism and Christianity. They will be looking in more detail at churches and synagogues and the artefacts used within those faiths. We will be looking at key ceremonies, weddings and baptisms and the similarities and differences between them.
In PE, we will be continuing with netball. Last half term, the children were learning different ways to throw the ball, over arm, under arm and chest passes. They were learning to develop accuracy when throwing to enable their partner to catch the ball. They will continue with this but they will be developing their spatial awareness. Working in small groups, they will need to move into spaces ready to retrieve the ball. By the end of the half term, the children will have developed the skills to throw the ball into the net in a simplified game of netball.
World Book Day
What a fun and exciting day we have had to celebrate World Book Day! It was lovely to see the children dressed up in their Harry Potter costumes or a character from their favourite book.
We enjoyed our quiz today to see if the children could recognise the book using clues about some traditional tales. They were FANTASTIC and guessed them all!
They could even recite some of the familiar phrases...
Fi Fi Fo Fum!
I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!
Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread man!
Who's been eating my porridge?
Take a look at 1LW's children all dressed up.
