Welcome to Sycamore!
Welcome to the class page for 5AB - please keep checking back as it will change regularly to keep you up to date with what life is like in Year 5!
LATEST NEWS (Last update 30-3-15)
Into the last week of term at last and the children had a fantastic time on their day at Stanley High last week. A new page of photos has been added to give you an idea of what everyone got up to. The Year 5 staff would like to wish everyone a happy and restful Easter and we will look forward to seeing the children back bright and ready to learn after the holiday!
Spring Term 2015
The children are going to be working hard this term as we continue our Anglo-Saxons' Topic - we are hoping to include some Design Technology as we design and make Anglo-Saxon brooches and medallions. In Science, we will be completing our topic on the properties of materials and moving on to investigating forces. In RE, the children will be studying Hinduism whilst in ICT they will explore how computers ccan be used to create art.
Key Information -
PE Days - PE is every Monday through the Spring Term. We find it best for children to keep their PE kit in school all week rather than trying to bring it in just on the days it is required. During the Spring Term, Year 5 will be having swimming lessons every Friday afternoon - at the bottom of this page you will find a link to download the information letter that explains how this will work.
Homework - Maths homework is set every Monday and is due to be handed in on Friday. Spellings are also sent home on Monday and are tested on Friday. In order to stagger the work load, English homework is set on Wednesdays for handing in the following Monday.
Reading - As is previous years, all the children have a school reading book and a reading record. They are encouraged to bring these home daily and regularly reading remains the greatest support that parents can offer their children. As children progress in reading, discussion of the books becomes more important than listening to them read - by Year 5, the children need to be able to talk about characters and their motives and devices that a writer uses.
