The Colour Monster
The Colour Monster
One day, Colour Monster wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad and scared all at once! To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through colour. What is the Colour Monster feeling? And can you help him feel a little less mixed up?
We understand what a big change moving away from Reception is and that the children must have been feeling a mix of emotions. To start the year off, we have done lots of work on our feelings. We began by discussing what makes us feel happy and then in PSHE, we put our feelings in to different jars, just like Colour Monster.
In continuous provision, we have been busy sorting our craft resources by colour. We used these resources to create colour jars. They look fantastic on our shelves. What do you think?
We also created our own monster using a straw to blow paint across the page. We added body parts and then wrote a description of our monsters (cold write).
In our English lessons, we have been busy learning the story of the Colour Monster. We began by sequencing the story as we read it and then used these pictures to orally retell it. We then created our own story maps to help with this. Some of us even added full stops to our story maps.
Watch the video of us retelling the story.
