The Union Jack and Flags
One of the ways in which people celebrated VE Day was by displaying flags at their homes and waving flags. The British flag is known as the Union Jack and contains the colours red, white and blue. The story of how it was formed over time from the flags of individual countries is linked below.
There is also an activity to colour and cut out sections to create a union jack - a challenge to follow but helps you to understand the different parts of the flag. To cut out the triangle linked to the central rectangle you need to fold and make a cut in the centre of the triangle and cut to the edges.
