Vincent Van Gogh 1853 - 1890
Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh was born in the Netherlands in 1853. Although he enjoyed Art, he had lots of other jobs before he became a full-time artist when he was 27. He learnt about the new style of painting called Impressionism and was influenced by Monet, Degas and Gaugin. He used very vibrant colours, sometimes painting directly onto the canvas from the tubes or using rough brush strokes.
Although he painted hundred of pictures he was not famous during his lifetime and struggled with his mental health leading to his early death. I wonder what he would have thought about the popularity of his paintings today and interactive exhibitions of his work?
