Learning for Monday, 1st March
Spelling - We will review the spelling list from last week with a quick test. The new spelling lesson to do yourself sometime today is here. It investigates words spelt with the -ous suffix.
English - Today we will look at the next chapter of the animated Macbeth - you can find it here. We will then start to plan the piece of writing we are going to complete this week, re-telling the story. Today is about making sure we can map out the main points of the story.
Year 6 Maths - First we will mark the arithmetic test from Friday. Then, today's lesson is all about recognising nets for the 3D shapes we were looking at last week and you can find it here. Once you have watched the lesson, do the worksheet that is further down this page and we will mark it in tomorrow's lesson.
Year 5 Maths - Meeting with Mrs Woodward as normal
Science - Today you need to continue our topic on the history of science with this lesson on how ideas about electricity have changed over time. In our afternoon lesson, we will catch up with any practical science that you have been doing and look at another idea you could try at home.
Learning for Friday, 26th February
Reading - We will look at another 10min reading challenge from the document below that we have been using this week. During the rest of the day, please make sure you get your Reading Plus done.
English - Episode 5 of Macbeth today. You can find it here. Your task today is to review the five videos we have watched this week and produce a summary of the story so far. If you fancy something different, try writing it was a review - what would a journalist have written when they first saw Macbeth performed?
Year 6 Math - Arithmetic focus. After marking yesterday's work on 3D shapes, we will be tackling this week's arithmetic test which you can find in the resources section.
Year 5 Math - MNP Book 1, Chapter 6, end of chapter review.
P.E. This afternoon, take time out to do the next Sports or Dance lesson from PDS - remember you can find the videos underneath the class stars on the main home learning page.

Reading - We are going to look together at another of the ten minute challenges from the resources section further down this page.
English - I want to share some of the Macbeth work that you have been sending me. We will then watch the section section of the story together - you can find it here. As your independent task today, you are going to write a short letter setting out to persuade Macbeth about what his next steps should be. You can take the side of the angels and persuade him that his has done enough bad things already or the side of the devils and persuade him to do worse than he already has to cover up his first crime. I'll explain more in the morning lesson.
Year 6 Math - We will review and mark the reflections work from yesterday and introduce today's lesson on the properties of 3D shapes. You can find the lesson here. When you have watched it, please complete the activities in the resources section.
Year 5 Math - Mrs Woodward's group will be looking at Chapter 6, Lesson 18 - Multiplying mixed numbers by whole numbers.
Grammar - Sometime today, please complete the Oak Academy lesson on prepositions. You can find it here.

Learning for Wednesday, 24th February
Reading - We are going to look together at another of the short reading challenges from the resources section further down the page.
English - We will share some of your battle scene descriptions from yesterday and work out what made a successful description. We will then watch the next section of the story together - you can find it here. As your independent task today, you are going to look at a simplified version of the original script for a conversation between Lady Macbeth and her husband and then rewrite the conversation (either as a comic strip or play script) in modern language. The script is in the resources section, further down the page.
Year 6 Math - We will review and mark the translations work from yesterday and introduce today's lesson on reflections. You can find the lesson here. When you have watched it, please complete the activities in the resources section.
Year 5 Math - Mrs Woodward's group will be looking at Chapter 6, Lesson 17 - Multiplying mixed numbers.
Computing - Today, we are starting to look at using variables in coding. I will introduce the topic in the afternoon lesson and then there is an Oak Academy lesson to do here. To try out your coding skills, you will want to visit the Scratch online site which can be found here.
History - As we are reading Shakespeare in English, we are going to look at what life was like in Britain when he was alive. To get you started, today's job is to watch this Horrible Histories Special all about William Shakespeare - not a piece of work anyone should complain about!
Learning for Tuesday, 23rd February
Reading - We are going to look together at one of the short reading challenges from the resources section further down the page.
English - We will look at how we would summarise 'the story so far' as we heard it yesterday for the opening scenes of Macbeth. We will then watch the section section of the story together - you can find it here. As your independent task today, you need to use the phrase bank we made together and some ideas of your own to write and edit a descriptive paragraph about the battlefield where Macbeth defeated the Norwegians and the Rebels.
Year 6 Math - We will review and mark the co-ordinates work from yesterday and introduce today's lesson on translations. You can find the lesson here. When you have watched it, please complete the activities in the resources section.
Year 5 Math - Mrs Woodward's group will be looking at Chapter 6, Lesson 16 - Multiplying fractions by whole numbers.
Spelling - today, have a look at the second lesson on this week's spelling words. It will help you fix some of the words in your memory! You can find it here.
PHSE - Today's lesson focuses on water - it's importance, use and conservation. You can find the lesson here.
Learning for Monday, 22nd February
Spelling - We will review the spelling list from before the holiday with a quick test (it was on the letter strings -ough, ear, ou, au and ice, if you need a reminder!) The new spelling lesson to do yourself sometime today is here.
English - Today, we are starting some work on William Shakespeare's play, 'Macbeth'. We'll be reading a short speech to see what written English looked like 400 years ago and then watching an animation covering the start of the story. The animation can be found here. Your independent work today involves developing descriptive language around the sounds of the battle field scene:
* Watch the video again (section starting around 1:10 in)
* List all the sounds you hear (e.g. screams, stamping)
* For each sound you listed, write an extended noun phrase that could
be used in description (e.g. desperate screams filled the air)
* Have these ready for 1.30pm and we will use them in a shared write.
Year 6 Maths - Today's lesson will remind you how to give co-ordinates for any point on an grid and you can find it here. Once you have watched the lesson, do the worksheet that is further down this page and we will mark it in tomorrow's lesson.
Year 5 Maths - Mrs Woodward's group will be doing working on MNP Book 1, Chapter 6, Lesson 15 - multiplying fractions by whole numbers.
Science - Today you need to start our new topic on the history of science with this lesson from Oak Academy. In our afternoon lesson, by popular request, I will go through some practical science activities you can have a go at while you are at home. Remember, I'd love to see any pictures of how you get on.

Reading - We need to review your written answers on the Alien Landing text so please have them ready and then we will check in with Reading Plus progress.
Writing - A last short writing task of the week - why does Batman need a coffee? All will be explained in the lesson.

Learning for Wednesday, 10th February
Reading - We will look again at the Alien Landing text from yesterday and look at the vocabulary and key events in the second part of the text.
Writing - Like yesterday, we'll be doing a second short piece of writing based on a picture starter. We will introduce the task in the lesson and you can then refer to the document in the resources section.
Year 6 Math - We need to review the work on classifying triangles from yesterday. Today's lesson from the Oak Academy is on classifying quadrilaterals and you can find it here. The activity sheets to go with the lesson are in the resources section below.
Year 5 Math - Today's lesson is MNP Book 1, Chapter 6, Lesson 12 - Subtracting Fractions.
PHSE - Today can you do the 3rd lesson in the 'Money Matters' topic. You can find it here.

Spelling - We will review last week's spellings from the suffixes lesson on making plurals with a short test and introduce this week's spelling focus on the letter strings -ough, ear, ou, au and ice. The lesson to do yourself sometime today is here.
English - Today, we will be doing a final edit and publish of our biographies. After we look at a couple in the lesson together, your task today is to use the checklist we will write in the lesson to make sure your biography is the best that it can be and then send it in for me to see. Here is the checklist we wrote in the lesson:
Biography Checklist –
- Make it exciting (more than a list of facts)
- Punctuation!!!!! – Proper Nouns need CL / commas after openings (& spelling)
- Vocabulary choices – are there any words that could be upgraded? Made / built ---- designed / created / engineered / imagined

Writing - We will look at your research on Elon Musk and talk about how to collate the information into paragraphs. Your task today complete your research, making sure you have interesting facts and quotes to keep your reader interested in your biography.
Year 6 Math - We will mark yesterday's work on line graphs and go over any problems that people had. For today's math lesson, you need to do this Oak Academy lesson on interpreting pie charts.
Year 5 Math - MNP Book 1, Chapter 6, Lesson 7 - Making Number Pairs.

Art - Using the sketching you did last week, your challenge is to begin a collage inspired by your story. The idea of collage is to build up colours and textures by sticking things onto your background and not just colouring them in. Here are some collages that artists have done to inspire you!

Reading - We will look at a passage together in the morning Zoom lesson
Writing - You need to watch the War of the Worlds video above and concentrate on the planet that the aliens are setting off from.
Task 1 - Build a vocabulary bank of noun phrases that describe the setting
(e.g. thick, choking smoke). Try to cover all senses.
Task 2 - Choose 8 of your noun phrase and use them in full descriptive
sentences including who/which/that conjunctions.
(e.g. The skies were filled with thick, choking smoke that stained every surface grey.)
Year 6 Math - We will do MNP Book 1, Chapter 5, Lesson 2 - Converting units of measure. I'll introduce the lesson and then you will need to do worksheet 2. The MyMath lesson from yesterday would help you if you haven't done it yet.
