Year 1
Autumn 1
The children have been learning about the Christian Faith. What does it mean to be a Christian and what do they believe?
They have been learning that Christians believe in God who is Jesus' father and creator of the world. They know that Jesus is the Son of God. They know that Christians worship in a Church and the Cross is the Christian symbol. They understand that the Bible is a Christian's Holy/special Book, and here they can read stories that Jesus told.
We have been reading some parables from the New Testament. The children enjoyed acting out the different roles for; The Lost Sheep. The Prodigal Son and The Good Samaritan.

Autumn 2
This half term have learned about how and why we celebrate sacred times. We looked closely at Holy Week and the children were able to sequence events from Holy week staring with Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday (The Last Supper), the crucifixion and the resurrection. We celebrated Christmas and the children performed a wonderful Nativity at our local church where parents were invited to the celebration.
Spring 1
This half term we are focussing on the religion Judaism. Our key question is Who is Jewish and what do they believe?
The children have been learning about various objects and their importance in the Jewish faith. We learned about the Mezuzah, an important artefact which is placed next to the front door. They touch or kiss the Mezuzah before entering the house. inside the Mezuzah is a special prayer called the Shema which reminds them that God is the Lord and there is only one God.
We have been learning about Shabbat and the children know that Shabbat is a day of rest which is a Saturday. On Friday night Jewish people clean, tidy and cook a special meal they share with friends and family.
We have been learning the names of some Jewish artefacts and why they are important.
