Year 5
Hello and Welcome to the home of 5KC and 5JS!
General Information
Reading - As in previous years, all the children have a school reading book and a reading record. They are encouraged to bring these home daily and regular reading remains the greatest support that parents can offer their children. As children progress in reading, discussion of the books becomes more important than listening to them read - by Year 5, the children need to be able to talk about characters and their motives and devices that a writer uses. In common with other year groups, Year 5 will be running a series of reading challenges this year to encourage reading beyond the classroom. Details to follow soon.
Homework- English and Maths homework will be given out on a Friday and will be handed back in by the Tuesday. There will be homework clubs starting (during lunchtimes) and are an alternative option for the children to complete their homework in school. Times and days of this club will be given to the children in the coming weeks.
PE Days - PE is every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon this term and whenever the weather permits, the lesson will be outside so suitable PE kit will be essential. We find it best for children to keep their PE kit in school all week rather than trying to bring it he in just on the days it is required. Swimming will begin after Christmas and will replace the Wednesday session.
