Sports Premium

Northbrook Primary Academy Sports Premium Allocation Statement

At Linaker Primary School we believe that Physical Education and Sport have a vital role to play in the social, moral, spiritual, cultural development of our pupils. P.E is vitally important in giving pupils the knowledge, understanding and the skills to make a positive impact on their own health and well-being.

Our P.E curriculum aims to provide pupils’ increasing self- confidence and self-esteem through an ability to manage themselves successfully in a variety of situations. Pupils will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities, carried out in a safe and supportive environment, where teamwork, effort and success is celebrated.

The Sports Premium is funding given to every maintained school in the country by the Government in addition to the school’s budget. Schools are free to decide how to allocate this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of. Links have been made with local clubs and activities planned for the children to ensure that they stay fit and healthy, especially for those who wouldn’t normally engage with PE and Sport.

This funding has allowed us to develop our PE and sport provision in the following ways, as we have :

• employed specialist PE teachers and qualified coaches to work alongside teachers in lessons to increase their knowledge and confidence in PE

• bought into the local School Sports Partnership PE and sports network

• provided access to regular inter-schools sports tournaments

• employed expert coaches to provide after school PE clubs on the school site

• identified and supported pupils who are gifted and talented in sport

Further to the schedule above in addition to our quality PE curriculum we provide the following:

• After school PE/Games club for all KS1 and KS2 year groups half termly throughout the school year.

• Football Central Venue tournaments

• Rugby Central Venue tournament

• Cricket Central Venue tournament,

• Tots on Tyres – Early Years cycling

• Bikeability – Year 6 cycling proficiency

• Outdoor Adventurous Activities at a local centre

• Individual pupil assessment and monitoring with access to online facilities that promote health, fitness and wellbeing

At Linaker, we endeavour to promote healthy living and wellbeing and this guided our allocation of funds. Pupil participation in extra-curricular activities, both at lunch times and after school, is increasing and we achieved the School Games Gold accreditation this academic year!
